概要
学修到達目標 | スピーキング・リスニング・ライティング・リーディングの4つのスキルアップを目指す。学生 はスピーチを書いたり、小テストがある。 There are several goals for our classes: 1) to be able to use English to complete communication tasks; 2) to develop presentation and public speaking strategies; and, 3) to gain confidence communicating in English. |

授業形態及び 授業方法 |
During online class, you will have many chances to write English speeches and practice presentation skills. Motivation is key: practice at home. You will improve. Please get a textbook; it will make online classes much easier.この授業は全て英語で実施する |
履修条件 | 1. English Communication Iは社会コミュニケーションサブメジャーコースの指定設置科目で、このサブメジャーを取る学生はEnglish Communication IIと共に履修しなければならない。2. 教職免許を取る学生はEnglish Communication IIと共に履修しなければならない。 3. その他の学生は、English Communication IとEnglish Communication IIの両方をI・IIの順で履修することが望ましい。前期のみまたは後期のみ履修することは可能ですが、特にEnglish Communication IIのみ履修する場合、担当教員と相談して下さい。 |

第1回 | オンライン授業を実施Self-introduction using name, department, interests, and personality Tasks include course registration, listenings, readings, a quiz, and a written introduction paragraph. |

第2回 | オンライン授業を実施Conversations beginning with how and what greetings, adding detail to conversation, talking about daily activities with time and frequency adverbs Tasks include listenings, readings, 4 quizzes, and a written introduction paragraph. |
第3回 | オンライン授業を実施Giving advice and talking about past regrets using should, should not, should have and should not have Tasks include listenings, readings, 2 quizzes, and a writing task. |
第4回 | オンライン授業を実施Introducing a friend 友人を紹介するスピーチ Practice your physical message--eye contact. Review and practice physical message and review how to compose effective introductory paragraphs. Writing--introduce a friend. |
第5回 | オンライン授業を実施Demonstration 実物説明のスピーチ Conveying your message with gestures, sequencers. Review physical message and how to compose the body of the speech. Writing--demonstration speech. |
第6回 | オンライン授業を実施Layout レイアウト gestures to convey place or location Review vocabulary and related gestures for sequencers. Writing--layout of your neighborhood. Prepare for class by practicing your speech in front of a mirror and focusing on gestures for sequencing. |
第7回 | オンライン授業を実施Layout レイアウトのスピーチ History of the White House, Nixon and Kennedy presidential debate. Review lesson by choosing an English-speaking politician and evaluating his/her use of gestures. Incorporate effective gestures into your own speeches. Describing locations with words and gestures. |
第8回 | オンライン授業を実施Layout レイアウトのスピーチ continued. Understanding gestures of shape. Describing the layout of your home. Locating buildings on a campus. Writing--movie review speech. |
第9回 | オンライン授業を実施Book & Movie reviews 本と映画のレビュー Adding emphasis to improve communication and audience understanding. Writing--speech about a present you received. Practice Speech 5 in front of a mirror while focusing on gestures for layout/location. |
第10回 | オンライン授業を実施Book & Movie reviews 本と映画をレビューするスピーチ Speech pacing and emphasis. Review words that frequently receive emphasis such as negatives. Practice Speech 6 in front of a mirror and ensure you emphasize certain words to aid understanding. |
第11回 | オンライン授業を実施Show and Tell 実物説明のスピーチ Using visual aids, pausing for emphasis and President Obama's examples. Review the President Obama speech, paying special attention to his use of pauses. Writing--speech about your family. Practice Speech 7 in front of a mirror, incorporating pauses and varying the pace of your delivery. |
第12回 | オンライン授業を実施Family 家族に関するスピーチ Writing--speech about your favorite place or vacation place. Practice Speech 8 in front of a mirror, paying special attention to using emphasis and gestures simultaneously. |
第13回 | オンライン授業を実施Vacation 休みに関するスピーチ Student survey of places to go in your neighborhood, comparisons of vacation options. Review elements of effective conclusions. |
第14回 | オンライン授業を実施Presenting and Accepting Awards 賞を授与する・される Review of physical message and verbal delivery techniques, preparing for final speeches. Prepare final speeches, ensuring proper physical message, using your voice effectively and structuring your speech accurately. |
第15回 | オンライン授業を実施オンライン授業を実施Presenting and Accepting Awards & FINAL SPEECH 賞を授与する・される&ファイナルスピーチ Final Speech (15% of your final score) To do well on the final speech, students must incorporate the skills learned in previous online classes. Small talk & goodbyes 雑談&お別れ Summary of class material. |

Scoring: 85% online classwork, written speeches and quizzes, 15% final speech. If you’re sick, email me. Your speeches are to be written online, so completing your speeches is very important. |
