概要
学修到達目標 | The goals of this course are for students to improve their business and academic English skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing and vocabulary) for use in daily life (inside and outside of Japan). Media (news, posts, interviews, commercials, etc.) and media literacy (understanding media) will be the main contents. 本授業科目はDP1・2・6及びCP1・2・6に該当しています。 |

This course is planned as a face-to-face (対面授業) course. In this course, you will do various listening, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary building activities. This course will be a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) experience. この科目ではビジネスとアカデミック英語を学ぶとTOIECテストは不要です。授業は90%英語と10%日本語で実施する。 |
履修条件 | This course is open to students of all English proficiencies. It is recommended for students interested in current news, TV commercials, memes, etc. Also, a willingness to communicate with others is important. |

第1回 | Introduction to media and media literacy, syllabus explanation and how to participate in this course, CERF level self-assessment After class: Review the syllabus, watch the news, website registration (60 minutes) |

第2回 | Continue with CEFR level self-assessment, share your experiences regarding media, discuss types of media: traditional and social After class: Review of the materials from class, watch the news, complete any unfinished activities (45 minutes) |
第3回 | Discuss music as media and explore 3 or more songs, the 5 key questions of media literacy, explanation of the song analysis task After class: Song analysis task (90 minutes) |
第4回 | Discuss social media and memes After class: Meme creation task (60 minutes) |
第5回 | Introduction to news media: How to read a news article, news article format, examples and activities After class: View memes, review of the materials from class and complete any unfinished activities (105 minutes) |
第6回 | News discussions, continuation of news article examples and more activities After class: Review of the materials from class and complete any unfinished activities (45 minutes) |
第7回 | News discussions, the art of interviewing, example interviews from talk shows, making and answering questions, choosing partners for interview project, project explanation After class: Work on your interview project (60 minutes) |

成績評価の方法 及び基準 |
Output-based tasks (Song analysis, meme, interview, commercial) 45% Activities (vocabulary, listening, reading, quiz, etc.) 45% Final evaluation 10 % Each scored task will have a point value and grading criteria posted. Scores and correct answers will be given. Some tasks will be scored credit/no credit, and on other tasks feedback will be given individually. On written tasks scores and feedback will be given on format, spelling, grammar, word usage, writing style, etc. On spoken tasks feedback will be given on pronunciation, fluency, grammar, etc. |
