概要
学修到達目標 | This course is a study of devices used in communication. Presenters, speakers, writers, and comedians use literary, rhetorical, and comedic devices, and so can you! The goals are for students to experience and understand how devices are used to enhance communication and for students to improve their English skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing and vocabulary). Exploring these devices will help them to understand various cultures and media. This course is designed for beginner to intermediate-level students (CEFR A1-B1), and higher proficiency students (CEFR B2-C2) will receive level-adjusted tasks. |

This course is planned as a face-to-face (対面授業) course. Various listening, speaking, reading, writing, and vocabulary building activities will be done. This course will be a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) experience. The course content may be adjusted to suit student interests and needs.授業は90%英語と10%日本語で実施する。TOEIC試験を受ける必要はありません。 |

第1回 | If over 60 students, a lottery will be held. Introduction to the course (syllabus explanation), greetings and introductions, small talk, the differences between TOEIC & CEFR, level self-assessment, quick sample of rhetorical devices in a song | After class: Register for the course. In-class activities (Presentation-discussions, conversations, quizzes) 33% Homework (Presentation preparation, online activities, etc.) 47% Evaluations (2x10%) 20% Each scored task will have a point value and grading criteria posted. Scores and correct answers will be given. Some tasks will be scored credit/no credit, and on other tasks feedback will be given individually. On written tasks scores and feedback will be given on format, spelling, grammar, word usage, writing style, etc. On spoken tasks feedback will be given on pronunciation, fluency, grammar, etc. |
